Well, my current creations have been all spherical. From 1" to 12" in size. The smaller softball sized ones are great for arm hand excersizes while sitting at the PC. The larger ones have ended up in a garden.

Mon, October 18, 2004 - 6:00 AMHowdy Technotaoist,
I like your copper sphere, I just started working with copper, making bookmarks. How do you keep your sphere from tarnishing?
Thanks,

Fri, November 5, 2004 - 8:57 PMThank you, Its a bit off, and looks even worse in that photo i just realized.
I don't. I like the natural tarnish for the most part. I have used a polyurathane or clear gloss in other projects though. Use a spray or brush on with multiple coats. -

Tue, June 7, 2005 - 12:49 PMYour spheres are wonderful. Have you ever tried putting a light inside the spheres? It will project the most wonderful shadows all over the walls and ceiling. I have had the best results using a 5w halogen bulb, but it was a bicycle headlamp that I modified. I have never found an ac halogen that uses less than 20w. Halogens seem to work best because of the intensity of light, but the heat they produce is a drawback.
If you ever want to experiment with a patina, you can achieve a great blue/green using household ammonia and table salt. Sprits the work piece with saltwater, or dip it water and roll the piece in tale salt, they rig up a tent with a plastic bag or some kind of enclosure where you can suspend the work. put a small amount of household ammonia in at the bottom of the tent and the vapors will chemically react with the table salt and copper. You can also give the copper a nice dark brown/grey patina using just ammonia. The blue green patina is somewhat fragile, but will stand up to time with a coat of krylon or some similar acrylic spray coating. -

Re: Spheres
Tue, June 7, 2005 - 2:46 PMI have just finished the frame work for a new sphere. I was planning it as a hanging one, so lighting might be cool. Only thing is I am a really poor electrician. I get near electricity and bad things happen.

Re: Spheres
Wed, July 27, 2005 - 11:54 PMStarted making a new type of sphere, that I call a working ball. I have made several by request so far after letting my friends play with the first one. I posted one picture of it, however the quality is low. I'll have to get some better shots in the daylight.
The idea is to have an open non-structured sphere shape. I add windings of narrow copper wire to a heavier gague to vary visual and tactile feel.
Had finished the hanging one by the way. No light in it, went very minimal on its design. Its hanging on my back porch, Ill get a picture of it to as soon as I remember.
